Hmm, a free Nano would help ease the pain. Apple should have a lot of them to give out now that they have new Nanos. I fully expected a price drop, but 33% in 2 months is unprecedented and unacceptable. Apple, show us some love so we keep buying your products and buy Leopard.
Now there’s an idea. How about free Leopard for all of us early adopters?

A nano wouldn’t do it for me. I already have an iPod. It’s called an iPhone.
I *do* like the idea of a free copy of Leopard, though.
Free iTunes gift card? Doesn’t have to be the whole $200 worth. I don’t begrudge Apple some profit. But a reacharound would be nice… 😉
The way I figure, what you paid the $200 ‘early adopter tax’ for was entertainment. So the longer you waited in line, the better deal you got. If you waited 20 hours, that’s $10/hour, comparable to movies these days.
My alternative solution for getting a free iPod Nano: enroll in a community college, and buy a Mac. You get a Nano or discount equivalent, on top of a $100 discount, via Apple Store interface. Unless that promo just ended.
i’ve never really ranted about much before, so i’m not sure why i feel so strongly about this. i just think this was wrong on a lot of levels – namely consumer trust and loyalty. i hope they turn around with some type of response within the next day or so.
raines – i actually just bought a macbook pro two weeks ago, my first mac in over 10 years so that also may be why i’m feeling a bit jaded and upset at apple.
I knew the price was going to drop on the iPhone when I was standing in line to get one- but a $200 drop in less than 3 months sucks. So, while none of the announcements were terribly interesting to me today because my phone does it all– I want my free (blue) nano (to make me feel a little better!)
Let’s stop and think why they would drop the price so low at this time? Must not be seeing the adoption they are looking for, right? Or they are worried about the Gphone. Either way, not like Apple to leave money on the proverbial table…and I think we’re unlikely to see any early adopter remediation (since we didn’t get an SDK etc., etc.). I love my iPhone. I’m glad I got one the first day. I’m not holding my breath for price drop remediation, and I’ll probably buy one now for my son’s 21st birthday now that its only $400.
I like the idea of a free copy of Leopard…or a Nano too, I wouldn’t turn that down! As an iPhone web-app developer I like to think that we’ve helped Apple out by increasing not only the hype, but the usefulness of their product.
I CAN believe the price drop happened, but what I’m having a hard time with is the lack of upgrade/improvement to help us early adopters/developers feel like we got something cool today, instead of feeling kinda dissed.
a friend in the cell phone industry gave me an interesting perspective which is… phones drop prices all the time and often within months. i’m still having a hard time with correlating the iphone to for example a razr – but it does put some of it into perspective.
